My Philosophy of Care

First and foremost, I believe deeply in your capacity to heal. I operate from a point of view that recognizes sanity and goodness in all beings. I do not believe in “fixing” anyone because as humans we are not broken. Rather, I see my role as a guide who assists clients in bearing what is true, connecting to the wisdom of emotions, building life skills, and bringing curiosity and compassion to the places inside that are wounded or confused.

I also believe in the importance of trust and safety in therapy. I strive to create an environment where each client feels wholly accepted for who they are so that vulnerability and change can be possible. I also believe in collaboration and client-centered therapy. Each person is unique and I strive to meet each client where they are.

I work from a trauma-informed perspective that takes into account the ways that we are impacted by life experiences. When vulnerable parts of us are hurt, other parts step into protective roles to keep us feeling safe and comfortable in the world. For example, someone who feels like they are not good enough due to being criticized in childhood may develop a part that strives to be perfect so that no one can see their flaws. My approach offers deep respect and curiosity toward these parts of us. When we bear witness to their stories with acceptance and curiosity, parts of us that have taken on extreme roles can be unburdened and healed.

My approach is rooted in compassion and acceptance. When we relate to our inner lives with curiosity instead of with judgment and resistance, the parts of us that have been shamed and pushed away can heal. I believe there is great power in noticing what is happening and bringing curiosity and compassion to our internal world.
